About Us
Set in beautiful grounds Widcombe Acorns pre-school and Forest School has large, permanent rooms within St Marks Community Centre.

We operate a high adult to child ratio, essential in providing good quality childcare. We have at least one member of staff to five children during session time.

Each child has a key person who supports their learning and documents progress through photographs and observations in individual on-line journals. This ensures that appropriate learning experiences are planned for each individual child.

We believe that the best way to encourage learning at pre-school age is through hands-on experience, investigation and creativity, with a strong emphasis on learning through play.

Our setting is organised into areas to help us deliver the Early Years Curriculum in a fun and imaginative way, and we make excellent use of our outside space and adjoining community hall.

We run daily Forest School, in which children are given the choice to stay outside for the morning or afternoon sessions. A wide range of activities are offered in a safe and secure garden. The children are well supervised and supported throughout the activities by experienced staff members and high ratios.

The inside environment has a sense of warmth and calmness. We use pale natural colours to minimise visual distractions, a scheme proven to encourage early listening and communication skills.

A well qualified and experienced small staff team ensure that Widcombe Acorns is a place that children have a sense of belonging. From very early on children learn that they have a voice and that the team are their co-workers, not their carers.
